EVERYTHING IS GOLDEN

EVERYTHING IS GOLDEN

A MODEL'S TALE OF RESILIENCE AND TRANSFORMATION

In the midst of the comforts and excesses of the developed world, it's easy to lose sight of just how privileged we are. Hakima Duot's story stands as a testament to the unbreakable spirit of the human soul. Born in war-torn Sudan, she lost her father at the tender age of three. Raised by a single mother amid extreme hardship, Hakima learned resilience from an early age. Her journey was marked by challenges, including being forced into child marriage with a significantly older man, whose daily abuse she finds difficult to discuss. Fortunately, her Grandfather came to her rescue, providing the resources needed to pay back her dowry and secure her escape.

Her path led her from Sudan to the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, where she sought refuge and envisioned a brighter future. However, the unexpected turn in her life arrived in 2019 when a friend sent a photo of Hakima to a modelling agent in South Africa. The agent, captivated by her unique beauty and presence, flew to Kenya, met her in person, and signed her with a modelling agency on the spot.

Almost overnight, Hakima transitioned from adversity to opportunity. Within a month, she secured a campaign with the high-end brand Hermes, marking the beginning of her journey toward becoming an international sensation. Modelling agencies from around the world soon recognised her potential.

Today, Hakima calls London home while working on the global stage, gracing runways and campaigns. Her success not only transformed her own life, but also extends its reach to her family back home, as she sends most of her earnings home to help them improve their lives.

In her own words, "I used to doubt myself, but now I see my uniqueness. I believe."

Hakima Duot's life shows that determination and grace can unlock doors and turn dreams into reality. Her story reminds us that, indeed, ‘Everything is golden”, when you believe in yourself.
